In a few months I'm going to be downsizing and moving into a small space, which means that I'm going to be facing a few decorating challenges. Fortunately I'm up to the task. In fact, I find decorating small spaces to be a lot more satisfying than decorating large ones.
Decorating small rooms forces you to do more planning and really take the time to create a functional space. For me, since I work mostly from home, it means creating not just a living space but a workspace as well. Should be interesting...
I'll keep you posted on how it goes. In the meantime check out our new articles on decorating small rooms.
A little while we talked about upcoming trends for fall and winter, one of them being dark, sophisticated walls. Well it seems as though BEHR Paints agrees. One of their trend forecasts for 2011 includes their Boudoir Goth collection, which is all about 'dark elegance.'
The collection includes sophisticated navy, chalky grape, deep raspberry and more. Check it (and the other trend forecasts) out here. I love the sexy elegance - perfect for cozy nights in on cold winter nights.
The collection will be debuting at The Home Depot in the coming weeks.
It's no secret that I love cruising the decorating blogs for great photos and decorating tips. Today I was paying a visit to CasaSugar and saw this post about the new show Secrets From a Stylist (hosted by HGTV Design Star winner, Emily Henderson).
Check out the post for some lovely and practical styling tips that are great for decorating novices and pros alike.
The 2011 IKEA catalogue - it's 60th - has finally arrived, much to the joy of style mavens and budget decorators the world over.
IKEA is the #1 source for affordable and stylish products for the home and this year's catalogue has a show-stopping selection of exciting new items (and returning favorites of course).
They've also forecasted some interesting trends for 2011 including the return of blue, industrial architecture, modern folklore and new utility. Check out the catalogue to learn more about them - on your computer or via the brand new iPhone App.
The kids aren't the only ones who have to go back to school this fall. Teachers are grabbing their book bags, preparing their lesson plans and getting ready to return to the classroom. And thanks to TeachersCount, (a non-profit organization that provides resources to the education community) and Staples, teachers from five schools around the USA will be going back to brand new teacher's lounges.
Under Brian Patrick Flynn, creator of the online design series Décor Demon, the selected schools will get total decorative overhauls of their lounges. The makeovers are part of a national initiative TeachersCount is coordinating with Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), an international honor society for teachers. KDP is providing volunteers - all teachers in the making - to donate their time and assist with the makeover project.
All in all it's a great community project that shows some of the hardest working people in education some much needed respect and appreciation. And the designs are pretty great to boot!
